The Chamber of Commerce of Orihuela has led in recent days a meeting between the representatives of Urban Cleaning and Tourism in the City of Orihuela, Dámaso Aparicio and Sofía Álvarez respectively, with representatives of the business associations of the Cabo Roig Strip Business Association and OC Avanza Business Association in order that the latter could expose their needs to municipal officials in the matters that most concern them about their business. The first vice president of the Chamber of Commerce, Pedro Mancebo, said that the meeting has also served to “plan commercial actions and provide accurate information on various issues to these merchants, mostly foreigners,” and has opted to make this type of encounters in other areas of the Oriolan coast “where there are similar problems that must also be resolved by the City Council”.
The main complaint of the businessmen was the need for cleaning in the public spaces where they carry out their activity, especially in the area known as Cabo Roig Strip, the commercial space located next to the N-332 in Aguamarina. In this sense, the businessmen asked the owner of Aseo Urbano, an increase in litter bins and waste containers for both organic waste and paper, glass and packaging in the face of the increase, both in terms of population and visitors, which is registered in the area in the summer ; request that was committed to immediately resolve the mayor Aparicio. With regard to street cleaning, it was agreed that at least until the end of August it will be done twice a week, while the businessmen said that they will comply scrupulously with the schedules to enable the coexistence of leisure and rest of the residents. . Thus, Mancebo has reported “the area has already received three clean-up sessions, which businessmen have thanked the councilman Damaso Aparicio once his commitment and empathy with their needs”.
Illegal sale in Cabo Roig
Another problem is the illegal sale in Cabo Roig, which employers have demanded to be stopped because it harms the tourist image of the area as well as their own interests, since people who do not pay the same taxes that those who have their businesses there, as well as the street vendors who install their stalls in the Thursday and Saturday markets, sell their products without any guarantee of quality or after-sale service. In this sense, a greater police presence was requested, especially during the summer months.
The meeting, made possible by the Chamber of Commerce of Orihuela, ended with these commitments adopted by both parties and with the promise by Dámaso Aparicio and Sofía Álvarez that before the start of each holiday period “a meeting of these will be repeated characteristics to be able to plan the necessary actions for the increase of the seasonal population in the Oriolan coast, “concluded Mancebo, who has described as” very proactive the attitude and receptivity of both municipal managers. “
